🎓 Celebrating Preschool Graduation – Tiny Caps, Big Dreams: The Journey Has Started, and This Is Just the Beginning 🌟

Today, I sat in the audience with a heart full of emotion and pride as my little one took the stage in a tiny cap and gown. The moment felt surreal—a mix of joy, nostalgia, and amazement. We were there to celebrate a milestone that marks so much more than the end of preschool. We were celebrating growth, courage, friendship, and the beautiful beginning of a lifelong journey.

The excitement in the room was contagious. Bright eyes sparkled with anticipation, and little hands waved to proud parents and teachers. There were giggles, hugs, and the occasional shy glance—but most of all, there was joy. Pure, radiant joy.

Watching the children perform their songs, recite their lines, and walk proudly to collect their certificates was truly heartwarming. Each of them has come such a long way—from learning to share and follow routines to recognizing letters, numbers, and the magic of their own creativity. They’ve blossomed before our eyes.

What made this celebration even more touching was the way the children celebrated each other. The friendships they’ve built are real and sweet—rooted in playtime, shared snacks, teamwork, and the occasional tumble followed by a helping hand. They’ve learned not just the ABCs, but the foundations of kindness, empathy, and cooperation.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible dedication and love of their teachers (teachers Ms Dana and Ms. Saraswati, school coordinator Ms Teeluck, assistants Ms Goorah and Ms Howard, support staff Ms Laura) These amazing educators have given more than lessons—they’ve given their hearts. They’ve created safe, joyful spaces where our children have been able to explore, ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. For every carefully prepared craft, patient explanation, and comforting hug—thank you. You’ve left a lasting imprint on our little ones’ lives.

As I watched my child smile from ear to ear, it struck me: this is just the beginning. The first step on a long, exciting road filled with learning, laughter, discovery, and dreams waiting to be fulfilled.

So today, we celebrate more than graduation. We celebrate tiny caps and big dreams. We celebrate the first chapter of a lifelong journey. And most of all, we celebrate the light in each child’s eyes—a light that reminds us all that the future is bright, and it starts right here.

Congratulations to our little graduates!
The journey has started… and this is just the beginning. 💛🌈📚

Honouring My Dad Today and Always- A Father’s Day Tribute my Dad

Father’s Day carries a different weight in my heart since 2018 — the year I said goodbye to my beloved dad, Ramchit Ramesh Thomas. Though the years have passed, the ache of missing him never truly fades. But neither does the love. Neither does the legacy.

Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that my kids were able to create memorable moments with their Dad, doing their fun creations and seeing them all excited but this Father’s Day, I find myself reflecting on Daddy a lot. It is not just about the man he was, but on the quiet, enduring power of the life he lived — and the strength he showed, especially during his battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). That journey was painful to witness, but in the midst of it, Daddy remained kind, brave, and deeply loving — right to the end.

Daddy loved life, he valued comradry, he seized any opportunity to help because this was his very nature and he always gave his best. He taught us never to give up and he took care of everyone around him. He was genuine, straightforward and full of life. His life was one of service and dedication and he always taught us how to be good and do good.

He and Mummy were always a team and they are the best parents we could ask for. They taught us how to pray, how to care, how to be genuine and to treat others as we would like to be treated because this is the way Daddy lived and the way Mummy continues to live. Daddy was not just the president of the Coromandel Shiv Mandir or the man who worked Petrotrin for the majority of his life, but he was well loved and respected by all who knew him because of how he lived, and this defined who he was.

In 2018, I wrote a post titled In Loving Memory of My Dad, Ramchit Ramesh Thomas (read it here). It was my way of beginning to process the unimaginable — learning to live without him while holding onto everything he left behind in spirit: his values, his faith, his quiet humour, his deep sense of responsibility.

Today, I continue that tribute by dedicating my first play, Shattered Dreams and Silver Linings, to his memory. This play has been staged once and it was in the Daphne Joseph Hackett Theatre in Bridgetown, Barbados. It is a story shaped by reality and awareness — by brokenness and hope, echoing that life can change in a split second by a few words that explain months of symptoms that go unexplained. In many ways, it is our story. The journey of loss, yes — but also of grace, love, and the ability to rise. The idea for this play came from a combination of several things- personal experience, an understanding of a lack of awareness when it comes to dealing with challenging medical conditions and a desire to help others plan ahead for difficult situations.

Though he never got to see this chapter of my life unfold, he was aware of the publication of Eternal Inspiration which I dedicated to him and Mummy. I know his presence is always with me. My dad was never one for loud declarations, but his presence was powerful — gentle yet grounding. That same quiet strength is what carries me today.

So, this Father’s Day, I honour him not only with memories, but with purpose. I honour him by continuing to live a life he would be proud of. I honour him by telling stories that matter — because he mattered.

He is loved, missed, and remembered always.

His story lives on in ours.

Celebrating Values in Education

As a mom who has been an educator for the past 20 years (yes, I began teaching at a very young age) and who has been enjoying the world of Communications and PR for the last 12 years, I’ve always believed that education is about more than just test scores and textbooks. My students and parents I have worked with over the years can attest to this!

It’s about shaping character, nurturing kindness, and teaching our children to be good people. That’s why I feel incredibly grateful that my 6-year-old is attending a school that doesn’t just focus on academics but also on values—honesty, respect, perseverance, and compassion.

This being said, today I am celebrating values in education! Yes, you’ve read it right! Why? It’s because I love celebrating positivity and highlighting it as best as I can.

As such, this post is about values in education and it all comes from looking at my daughter’s educational journey. I know it has only just begun but those who know me would fully understand why!  Like any other parent, I want the best for my kids and Longdenville Sathya Sai Primary School has been a pleasant surprise from day 1.

So, what are these values about? For those who don’t know what values in education are about, they are peace, non-violence, love, truth and right-action. These translate to mean Shanti, Ahimsa, Prema, Sathya and Dharma respectively and they are the five pillars which form Sathya Sai Baba’s Education in Human Values program.

Every day, I see the impact of this approach, not just in homework assignments, but in the little things many would take for granted. These moments remind me that education is so much more than memorizing facts; it’s about shaping the kind of person my child will become.

Being able to see first-hand how the values come together is really a truly rewarding experience. How? Let me tell you!

Imagine a place where values are reflected in actions. Imagine studying it like any other subject but living it in every sense! That’s what it is about and it doesn’t deviate from it.

Education in Human Values (EHV) is timetabled! Every theme for every event incorporates it and parents are not left out. Why? How? Parents get to have a very hands on approach to their kids learning. Let’s call it, ‘accepting responsibility’ because essentially that’s what it is. I am really happy that I opted to share some of the cool assignments with the world over time (yes, I did) and I am happy to share them here with you!

Just click on these links and see for yourself! It’s ‘My Community’ using recyclable material, a Christmas hat, a decoration for the tree (where each student had something to add to the tree), a madhatter design using stuff at home and an “Anything but a bag project”.  Please, click on the links so you can see for yourself exactly why I am excited about each of these projects:

https://www.clickasnap.com/image/3999179/madhatter-design

https://www.clickasnap.com/image/4224395/anything-but-a-bag-project

This is just one part of it. Let me share some others:

  • I love that the school community is a close knit community.
  • I love the way the kids look out for each other.
  • There is no discrimination against religion or ethnicity.
  • Their school life embodies teamwork and from greeting each other in the morning to taking responsibility for their own actions, the kids are learning that respect isn’t just about being polite—it’s about valuing others and the community they are part of.
  • The kids are being taught yoga.
  • The kids are learning about healthy living and eating in a very real sense.

There are many other reasons why this school stands out and I promise there is another post to follow!

Celebrating Time: Happy New Year 2025!

Hey everyone, Happy New Year and all the best to you and your loved ones in 2025!

As many of you know, I always say that I am eternally blessed, and I am forever grateful because I mean it! Recently, I have added moving forward with faith so it’s now: Eternally grateful, forever blessed and moving forward with faith.

Looking back at the past year, I am grateful for not giving up! I am grateful for my persistence, resilience, the love and support of those in my circle, opportunities to create memorable moments and blessings from the Divine Master.

I am not saying that it wasn’t a year with challenges, but I am not dwelling on them. It was a year of valuable learning, experiences and growth. While I didn’t run from challenges, I have learnt the value of taking the time to put things into context, get clarity and take it bit by bit and step by step, one moment at a time.

What are some of my wins?

  1. Being able to spread positivity, one person at a time. This blog, Celebrating Existence, is now in 143 countries, it is being viewed daily, and it has 26k viewers.
  2. On TikTok I have been sharing positive messages via rachaelathomasj and I have generally been consistent.
  3. My YouTube channel continues to grow.
  4. Additions to my Time to Travel to Trinidad and Tobago were made.
  5. I completed the script for a play entitled Shattered Dreams and Silver Linings which is due to be staged in Barbados this year. The play itself is based on a storyline very close to my heart and seeks to bring awareness and a need for persons to look out for each other. It focuses echoes so many things, primarily that things can change in a split second, not everything can be fixed and brings together a focus on health, family, personal struggles just to name a few, reminding us of two things I always say- no one can fit in your shoes the way you do and tomorrow is promised to no one.
  6. Being able to deal with some tough situations, knowing that I did the right thing, so even I can say, I did it my way!
  7. Being saved from a catastrophic situation where one job opportunity could have placed my family in harm’s way. Thankfully the Divine Master protected us and took care of us as always.

This being said, I wish each and every one of you and your beautiful families a joyful, peaceful, and love-filled New Year! May this coming year bring gentle moments, shared laughter, healing, new beginnings, and the kind of happiness that lingers in your heart. May your homes be filled with warmth, your days with purpose, and your lives with blessings beyond measure. Here’s to new memories, stronger bonds, and all the magic this fresh chapter holds—Happy New Year!

Celebrating Pujya Appaji!

In this post I am celebrating His Holiness Parama Pujya Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, our dearest Pujya Appaji! Appaji is like no other and those who know His Holiness can surely agree that He has never been! Appaji, over and over again, I place my most humble prostrations at Your Lotus Feet!

Not one day in my life have I ever questioned Appaji or His greatness and Appaji knows I never would. My journey with Appaji began years ago as a little girl seeing His name and trying to say it and practicing it syllable by syllable without knowing Sachchidanda means ‘truth, consciousness and bliss”. To see Pujya Appaji’s smiling face is always a comfort.  To hear His voice, read His messages, go through the different platforms He exposes us to daily is only just a fraction of the many blessings we receive on a daily basis!

From the very first day I saw Pujya Appaji, His priceless smile and His eyes said it all! Every day of our lives with Pujya Appaji has been a blessing and no number of words can adequately say Thank You to His Holiness for all He has done for us and continues to do for us! As I am writing this, I am listening to Appaji’s bhajans, and His voice is my comfort.

When I posted on Facebook a few days ago it felt like I was looking on at a dream and as these past two weeks have unfolded Appaji and Lord Hanuman showed that together They have provided protection and guidance consistently as always.

Indeed, I had a career opportunity that I was working towards for over the last eight years. When it came it felt surreal. I had forgotten about it for a bit because of how long I had applied but I was honored to be selected. I spoke to Shiva and let him know I needed the kids and him with me as I couldn’t be away from them for over a month and leave them alone so he knew what my thoughts were and though I followed the instructions I was given, I spoke mentally to Appaji saying, “Whatever You decide I will follow!” The reality was that I just needed to make an effort to show interest and I did, but nothing else was in my hands and with good reason! This job would have placed my entire family in jeopardy because as I said, I would have been on an island waiting with Shiva and our little ones for Hurricane Beryl to hit. Seeing the damage it wreaked on so many people in so many countries, knowing how many people it affected, I know what we were spared from.

My reality is this:

  1. Pujya Appaji and Lord Hanumanta have saved me several times and I will always be eternally grateful for this.
  2. Pujya Appaji has taught me the value of silence on so many levels.
  3. Pujya Appaji has taught me why I need to focus.
  4. Pujya Appaji has given me many avenues to be good and do good.

Like me, many of you can attest to the fact that:

5. Pujya Appaji blesses us each day abundantly and no number of words can adequately say Thank You because we owe Pujya Appaji a debt of gratitude that we can never repay.

6. Pujya Appaji has found so many avenues to interact with us on a daily basis that He reminds us He is always with us. We have Pujya Appaji’s social media platforms, SGS Posts and all other apps, YouTube, the Ashramas and Datta Yoga Centers globally, Kriya Yoga, Bhagavad Gita, Kavachas, daily live sessions, Dattavani speeches and Bhajans just to name a few.

7. Pujya Appaji has established several Bala Datta Centers to ensure that our children are taken care of.

8. Pujya Appaji has authorized the publishing of so many books available in print and as e-books on sites like Amazon.

9. Pujya Appaji has given us Ragas and provided us with Healing Music.

10. Pujya Appaji has and continues to tell us and show us day after day, how to take better care of ourselves.

11. Pujya Appaji has always been committed to helping us take better care of ourselves.

12. Pujya Appaji has always been committed to serving mankind.

13. Pujya Appaji has and continues to teach us how to take better care of our environment, and by extension, this world we live in.

14. Pujya Appaji’s actions have always been selfless.

15. Pujya Appaji has always been committed to helping people the world over!

16. Pujya Appaji always urges us to live together.

17. Pujya Appaji does not discriminate.

18. Pujya Appaji is the purest representation of Divinity, Selflessness and all that is good.

19. Pujya Appaji leads by example.

20. Pujya Appaji’s commitment, dedication and love have been unwavering.

21. Pujya Appaji loves us all and that love speaks volumes.

Appaji, we pray for Your Health and will continue to do so! We thank You immensely for all You have done for us and continue to do for us, every second of every day! We love You Appaji!

Celebrating Existence: the 2023 chapter!

Wow! What a year but it’s over and it’s time to close the 2023 chapter! My comfort is this: see it for what it is, accept it for the lessons and experiences and give thanks that I endured it!

The thing with 2023 is that it was a year unlike any other and enduring it must mean something right? From January to December there was a lot, especially of unexpected things, but we got through it! Remember a couple things:

I have done my best! The cards I have been given have been dealt with! This year has been filled with so many challenges I think they are outside all others.

The reality is if another year is like it, I would say my ‘back strong’ and I would not give up.

People look at you and they think your smile means you are on top of the world. They judge you; they accuse you of the worst things you are not even capable of, but they think it is okay! It can never be! Always remember, what you don’t like for yourself, don’t do to anyone else!

Those who know me would know I am pleasant, peaceful and I believe in treating others like I want to be treated. I stay away from drama. I maintain my silence as best as I can.

Thankfully I have been blessed with the love of my family and the people who fit in my circle.

What a year! Omg!

I have walked away from situations.

I have become more silent.

I have been at a loss for words.

I have severed ties.

I have walked away from toxic.

I have said no to hypocrisy.

I have survived.

I have met those who when they say stand up and wait you need to run for your life.

I have learnt to just do and move on.

But I have not lost my humanity.

I have not sacrificed my peace of mind.

I have stood up for myself.

I have learnt to believe more and more in my sayings!

No one can stand in my shoes or fit in them like me!

I am never alone!

Doing my best is always what matters!

All in all, I am determined to make 2024 better! All in all, like before, I am determined to be the best I can be! As I always say eternally grateful and forever blessed! I remain committed to helping people the world over one country at a time!

Celebrating Life’s Lessons through the eyes of Experience!

Hey everyone, yes, I am celebrating life’s lessons, and I am celebrating it through the eyes of experience. Certainly, life presents us with so many challenges that sometimes it comes one after the other, but one of the important things is keeping our faith and not giving up!

Easier said than done, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not here to tell you I know what you are going through, or to tell you to get over it or to tell you that your challenges are insignificant! That is not me, it was never me and would never be me, and I can assure you that. I believe in treating people as you would like to be treated and I always do my best to help others.

One thing that I always say and those who know me can attest to it is that no one can ever stand in your shoes and fully say they understand what you are going through because there is only one you and a pair of shoes doesn’t fit any two people the same way. The same adjectives may be used like ‘comfortable’ or ‘uncomfortable’ but that’s as close as it gets.

What I do however is share positivity as best as I can with the hope my messages can reach people the world over! This blog is one medium, then there are my social media pages and my most recent addition has been TikTok. Here is my TikTok link for those who want to visit it, https://www.tiktok.com/@rachaelathomasj . I also urge you to think about these five things!

  1. Not everyone will like you! In this life, people will be bothered by your success, your achievements, your disposition, your beliefs, your finances, your appearance and your happiness just to name a few.
  2. Not everyone lives up to their word! Often times we would realize this is more real than we expect.  Many times people show us what they want us to see! They are about appearances, using flowery language and what we would call, ‘mamagism’.  (Re: Dictionary.com to deceive or tease/ (ˈmɑːməˌɡaɪ) Caribbean / verb. to deceive or tease, either in jest or by deceitful flattery.) They say what they think you want to hear and think that’s okay rather than be honest.
  3. Some people don’t realize the more they lie, the more difficult it becomes to tell the truth. It becomes so bad in some cases, that even they begin to believe their own lies.
  4. Some people do not realize that karma is real. It’s not about wishing anyone bad but asking people to apply Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion, “To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction,” to karma, with the full realization that there is a distinct parallel between the both.
  5. People love to create illusions. They don’t realize illusions can be shattered in a split second.

This being said, I sincerely hope these help you!

  1. You don’t need everyone to like you! Your circle may be small but those people you need in your life will be there.
  2. Always use what you know to guide you through your reasoning. Also, don’t change who you are unless it is to become a better version of yourself.
  3. Lies don’t survive. The truth eventually comes out. Just don’t let anyone insult your intelligence, take advantage of you or underestimate your worth.
  4. Always be good and do good! Don’t stoop to anyone’s level! Remember that God always takes care of His children!
  5. Remember sometimes when people choose to be ridiculous, know you just don’t have to respond. I am not saying that should not defend yourself or let others walk over you but sometimes silence pays and trust me, you would know when you should be silent and not expend your energy. Some individuals are so self-absorbed that they cannot see how they are destroying others or hurting them. Don’t subject yourself to insults and by all means if you can, use the scissors of life to cut toxic people out of your life.

In closing, don’t give up! Always believe in yourself! Sometimes, it may not be easy but always know you are not alone!

Celebrating Opportunity and Positivity in the face of Adversity!

Indeed, you read the title correctly and you may be wondering how these two come together, but as you go through this post, it will all make perfect sense!

For those who could remember, a couple years ago I would create my own motivational quotes and sure enough they would be a reflection of my own writing. Now, one of the things people either underestimate or remain ignorant of is the power of their words. Words can make you or break you, that is if you let them. If they keep you down, which might probably be the case, it would not be forever. Remember, when you hit rock bottom, the only place after is to go up!

Trust me when I say, everything I do is done with meaning, sincerity, love and a genuine desire to help others. It is my hope that you can be motivated to celebrate opportunity and positivity in the face of adversity.

Yes, I have been aiming for consistency in posting my messages and letting them be a true expression of my thoughts and feelings as I share them with the world and direct them to all who receive them. In case you are wondering what exactly I am referring to, you can check:

  • https://www.tiktok.com/@rachaelathomasj (you can follow me there to get my daily messages)
  • This blog was recently viewed in another new country so now in addition to my home country of Trinidad and Tobago it has been viewed in 138 other countries plus has been viewed over 20.5k times and I also have over 250 followers here. https://rachaelathomasj.com/ Yes, it’s in every continent and that’s at least 70% of all the countries in the world!
  • Time to Travel to Trinidad and Tobago (my latest book) has been released as a Paperback and is due to be released as an eBook in the imminent future. This book is filled with so much information about Trinidad and Tobago, and yes, it is 275 pages long. Some of the things to look out for are lots of photos (yes, I finally got the perfect way to use so many of the pics I have been taking over the years and I also got awesome pics from family members, close friends and some interesting people who provided a wealth of information for me to create a wonderful representation of our twin-island paradise.
  • https://www.instagram.com/rachaelathomasj/ is my main Instagram platform and that continues to grow.
  • https://www.instagram.com/skyprofwritingandtutoring/ I have been sharing more of my professional services here and this is relatively newer.
  • I also have a Spotify channel where I add my favorite music https://open.spotify.com/user/31pyidff5ukqzjeukyrmcryshbh4. Please follow me here if you can!
  • My YouTube channel has gotten over 1,400 views to date https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm4fdLy4PsNFIcXfNVDzgSA
  • I have invested time in updating my LinkedIn profile as well.
  • Google has reliably informed me that my reviews have received over 8,000 views at present.

I have also been practicing better self-care and for more reasons than one, all of which are good. As always, I believe in the golden rule, ‘Treat others as you would like to be treated.’

As I often say, I am here to help others, one country at a time and I do it in my own way. For me, it is all about helping others and spreading positivity. It is about good vibes and treating others as you would like to be treated. It is about keeping your focus and yes, like everyone else, just like everyone I have my tough days. As such, some days it takes longer to get back up, but I do not quit or do anything to hurt anyone. Simply put, that is not me. I urge you not to quit as well or do anything to hurt anyone. Always be true to yourself!

At the end of the day, let us celebrate where we have come from and where we are! Let us celebrate our journey and keep our focus! Let us take it bit by bit and day by day! Let us count our blessings, our little victories and each challenge we overcome! Let us rise in the face of adversity! Together we can!
